The deadline for grant applications is May 1, 2006.
A winner or winners will be announced by September 1, 2006.
How Will a
Winner Be Chosen?
Our goal is to award this grant to the organization(s)
whose cause and goals can benefit the most from our
services. We are inspired by a range of progressive
causes including human rights, the environment, civil
liberties, and social justice.
How Many Winners
will be Chosen?
The answer to this question depends on the ideas applicants
submit. If the best-fitting submission falls into a
time intensive category such as Flash animation, we
may award one grant to one organization. If, on the
other hand the best ideas fall into areas such as print
or web design, we may choose more than one winner.
Also, if we find that several organizations
submit applications on a similar topic, we may work with these organizations to create
one product that serves multiple groups. This was the
case of the Meatrix, which helped a coalition of groups working
to curb abuses in factory farming.
What Exactly
Will the Grant Include?
Again, the answer to this questions rests on the applications
we receive. In a nutshell, Free Range will donate up
to 125 hours of work to the grant, a value of $15,000.
The grant could be comprised of one
Flash movie, or a series of products for several organizations.
Can I apply
for more than one Free Range service?
If your project falls under more than one design or
communications service (i.e. it’s a campaign
that involves a website and a printed brochure) yes,
you should apply for more than one Free Range service.
In short, apply for what would make your idea most
effective and compelling.
What About
Organizations that Don’t Get the Grant?
Don’t despair! You are welcome to re-apply for
the grant in 2006.
In the meantime, we encourage you
to contact us regarding your ideas. Perhaps we can
find a way to make your goal a reality through an innovative
solution that meets your budget and in-house capabilities.
In the past we have also linked like-minded organizations
to pool their resources and make a splash that they
could not afford to make on their own. Alternatively,
we could support your efforts to find funding for your
communications needs by providing you with information
for your grant proposals.
Finally, all applicants will be invited
to a roundtable discussion on e-communication strategy
in the fall of 2006. |
